Here at Auto Info Zone we love everything about cars. Whether its new vehicle releases, vehicle reviews or just day to day guides to help our readers get the best experience on the road. Last week our email subscription box received a ping that Mobberley based All Car Leasing company posted a new study called doin’ it for the ‘gram which looks at UK driver’s choices when it comes to buying a new car and just how important a vehicles looks are when making that decision.
The main crux of the article, though, is their social media habits but indirectly I feel All Car Leasing found a lot more than they bargained for. To start, it was revealed that out of 600+ respondents, 50% of 25-34 year olds have posted a picture of their vehicle on social media! This is such an fascinating statistic that half of millennials showed their motor off publicly more than any other age group although it does make sense. Next up, although reliability was overall the most important aspect to their respondents when choosing a car it is the vehicle’s looks which are the most important for those aged between 25-34. We’re now starting to get a clear picture of what kind of people “do it for the gram”…
The use of private plates took a large chunk of the lime light in the study was perhaps the most intriguing as All Car Leasing suggest that a private plate is possibly the ultimate vanity symbol in the UK. Here’s why:
- 53% of private reg owners have modified their car
- 50% of private reg owners clean their car at least every fortnight
- 58% of private reg owners have posted a picture of their car on social media, way above the average
With this in mind, we at Auto Info Zone are inclined to agree that if you’re the kind of person who has a cherished plate then you are very likely to be a bit vain! Interestingly, All Car Leasing at no point say that being vain is a bad thing and on their podcast speculate that the reason behind why these people take care of their car’s appearance is largely unknown. Are they vain or are they simply proud of their vehicle and just enjoy sharing it with like minded people? Perhaps if there ever was a doin’ it for the ‘gram 2.0 we may find out.
We’d love to know your thoughts on this – are you someone who likes to show off or perhaps you’re the type that keeps everything quiet? Let us now in the comments below or even let All Car Leasing know on their comments section.
Anyway, we’ve only touched on what this study has uncovered so if you’re intrigued from what we’ve mentioned so far then why not visit the All Car Leasing blog section, check out the infographic below or even listen in to their brand-new podcast!
